Autumn Breaks on the Norfolk Broads
Wildlife and fauna are still on show. Nature reserves such as How Hill and Hickling are open and of course the many walks around the Norfolk Broads can still be enjoyed – in fact – for many the slightly cooler temperatures make these outdoor activities more enjoyable. Autumn is a great time for anyone interested in birds. Bean geese, pink-footed geese and white-fronted geese fly in from Scandinavia, Iceland, Greenland and Russia. The trees are covered in golden leaves and autumn flowers are abundant. Other outdoor pursuits include cycling and cycle hire is available in many areas and there are some fantastic cycle routes when considering Autumn breaks on the Norfolk Broads.
The city of Norwich is also on the Norfolk Broads with many indoor and outdoor things to enjoy such as museums, theatre, cinema, and of course it is one of the country’s best places for shopping. For those who start early you can even make Christmas shopping part of your holiday! Villages on the Broads have specialist shops for local food, art and crafts.
The many pubs and restaurants on the Broads and the surrounding areas are open for those who fancy an evening of dining out. But of course one of the best things about a boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads at this time of year is the cosy evenings on board. Boats have a fully equipped galley area for cooking on board. There is also a TV and of course bringing a great book, deck of cards and games allows for some relaxing time alone and quality time with your ship-mate or mates.
Fishing can also be enjoyed during Autumn breaks on the Norfolk Broads. You will need a current Environment Agency licence and, although not over the Autumn, please remember that the closed season applies to all the Broads and rivers from 15th March to 15th June inclusive.
If you fancy another type of boating adventure, rowing and sailing dinghies can be hired alongside your cruiser (charge applies and subject to availability). These can allow you to access areas that cruisers cannot reach and can just be an extra bit of fun!
