Visiting Ranworth

Ranworth is a small village within the Norfolk Broads, accessible by Malthouse Broad and Ranworth Broad. The village is home to the Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s unqiue floating visitor centre, as well as a couple of places to grab some delicious food and the famous “cathedral of the Broads”, St Helen’s Church. This article will list some helpful information when visiting Ranworth.

Mooring when visiting Ranworth

Popular with holidaymakers, it can be a challenge to get a spot on Ranworth Staithe, even in quiet times. If you cannot get a space on the staithe, Ranworth island is popular with families because of the large lawned area. You will need a tender to reach the village from the island, however. Some holidaymakers choose to mud weight in the Broad.

Leisure when visiting Ranworth

A gem of nature reserves, the village’s floating tourist centre is fantastic. With great opportunities for birdwatching, as well as catching glimpses of the rare Swallowtail butterfly and a boardwalk around the Broad, this is a must when visiting. The centre piece of the village, however, is St Helen’s Church. Often referred to as “the cathedral of the Broads”, the church has stood as it does today since 1450. The medieval-painted rood screen was damaged during the Reformation, but still survives as one of the finest in England – definitely worth a look!
