Dog Friendly Norfolk Broads: Hoveton and Wroxham

For locals and holidaymakers alike, finding a place to take the pooch may seem a little like hard work – but we’ve done the hard work for you when it comes to dog friendly Norfolk Broads destinations!

Fondly referred to as the ‘capital of the Broads’, Wroxham is home to Roys of Wroxham, Richardson’s Day Boat Hire, and lots of delicious places to eat. Hoveton, the next-door village, has BeWILDerwood, Wroxham Barns, and some of its own delicious delights. Broads Authority moorings are available on the on the Coltishall side of the bridge, making a great base for exploring the 2 villages, which are great examples of the dog friendly Norfolk Broads.

Undoubtedly the best place to grab a bite to eat for you and the pooch in the area is the Kings Head in Wroxham. With a hotel and pub, the Kings Head has a special doggy diner room and delicious treats for the pup to enjoy – a great example of dog friendly Norfolk Broads pubs! For the adults, the pub has a selection of wines, draught beers and cask ales to choose from, as well as a delicious choice of pub classics for all the family. From burgers and steaks to Sunday roast, this is a great choice for grabbing some traditional pub fare. You might also be able to take part in a pub quiz, or catch up on the latest sport. A great classic pub!

Well-behaved dogs on leads are also welcome at Wroxham Barns, with the exception of the Junior Farm and Children’s Play Areas for health and safety reasons. Dogs are also not permitted inside of the site’s shops, but will enjoy a leisurely stroll around the area.

Why not explore the Bure Valley Railway? An 18-mile round trip from Wroxham to Aylsham, this pretty Bure Valley is a fantastic place to bring the dog. Why not take the footpath beside the line to one of the destinations along the way, including Coltishall and Brampton, and hop on the train to make it back to Wroxham? Dogs are welcome on board the train, and will love watching the countryside and nature go by as they chug back to Wroxham – a great example of the dog friendly Norfolk Broads! This is especially great for boaters with children.
