What to expect on your visit to How Hill Trust.
An environmental educational charity, the How Hill Trust was founded in 1984 and is based in its namesake, the How Hill House landmark near the river Ant. The house is surrounded by gardens, wetlands, windmills, and woodlands, and is home to school children most academic weeks of the year.
The trust also has an on-site tearoom, as well as having the gardens open for visitors to explore*.
Gardens
There are two gardens at How Hill Trust: the Secret Gardens, and the House Gardens. The Secret Gardens were established by the original owner of the house in the 1920s, which features oak, sweet chestnut, and hornbeam trees. Within this, there is a woodland walk, with a ‘Habitat Hamlet’ featuring bug hotels. The garden features a variety of colours and plants, including azaleas and rhododendrons. The House Gardens are the formal gardens that are around the house, and feature yew hedges, a walled garden, long border garden, square garden, and white garden. The is also a Rose Garden, a project which began in 2016.
Tearoom
Open in late Spring, the Tearoom at How Hill Trust offers a selection of homemade cakes, scones, and sandwiches alongside ice creams, and a selection of hot and cold drinks. The tearoom is in a wooden building, and features indoor and outdoor eating areas.
