New parents Barry and Bekki Broxson have named their baby boy after the Richardson’s boat Rio, where they spent their honeymoon last year.
Proud Parents Name Their Baby After Richardson’s Holiday Boat
Baby Rio John Broxon was born on 23 January, weighing 7lb 8oz.
Barry and Bekki, from County Durham, were married on 5 May in Bearpark. They then travelled south to Norfolk, and set off on their honeymoon from our Stalham boatyard on 7 May.
The northern newlyweds spent their romantic break navigating the Norfolk Broads on board our river cruiser. “We loved spending time on Rio,” said Barry. “The boat was really roomy, and very comfy – ideal for honeymooners!”
Once they learned that their baby was due almost exactly nine months after embarking on their honeymoon, Barry and Bekki settled on the name Rio.
“It was Barry’s idea to call our baby Rio – even if we had been told we were expecting a girl, we’d still have stuck with the name,” said Bekki.
“Our son’s full name will be Rio John Broxson, as lots of men in our family are called John – we thought we’d stick with some traditions!”
Bekki revealed that the new family are already planning a trip on the boat Rio when baby Rio is old enough, saying: “We’ll definitely be taking our son to meet his namesake!”
We first broke the story of Barry and Bekki’s baby name choice back in October, and are delighted that they’ve chosen to stick with their original idea!
We wish the Broxon family all the best in future, and hope they do indeed return to the Broads as a family in the future.
