Visiting Norwich on your Norfolk Broads Boating Holiday

Norwich really is a fine city with so many things to see and do. If you are planning to spend a day or two of your Norfolk Broads boating holiday in Norwich here are just a few of the attractions you could visit. You could even take a city sightseeing tour on an open top bus.

Bridewell Museum – This museum tells the history of Norwich and the people who have lived there. There is a mini cinema where you can watch archive films.

The Forum – This is the main library in Norwich and a great place to meet friends. There is a pizza restaurant and an al fresco café inside. It is also where BBC Look East is based.

Riverside Entertainment Centre – This area has an Odeon cinema, ten-pin bowling alley, pubs, clubs, shops and restaurants.

Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery – This was built 900 years ago by the Normans as a Royal Palace. It is now full of treasures including fine art, archaeology and natural history.

Strangers’ Hall – This is a Tudor house in which you will see room settings, historic toy collections and much more.

Norwich Cathedral – This is the most complete Norman cathedral in England. It also has the largest cathedral close and monastic cloister in England. There are exhibitions and a tea shop.

Shopping in Norwich is a must if you visit on your Norfolk Broads boating holiday. In fact Norwich was voted into the top ten places to shop in the CACI Retail Footprint in 2013.

Chantry Place – This mall has over 80 shops including a House of Fraser, as well as numerous cafes, restaurants and eateries. You can easily spend a whole day browsing and shopping.

Castle Quarter – This is a five storey shopping mall with over 70 shops and many eateries and cafes.

Norwich Market – This is open 8.30-5.30 Monday to Saturday and is the largest open-air market in the country. There is a great range of stalls including some selling local produce.

Large department stores in Norwich include Jarrold (East Anglia’s top independent department store), John LewisMarks & SpencerHouse of Fraser and Debenhams.

Independent specialist shops are also abundant in Norwich. Many of these can be found on Elm Hill which is a wonderful character cobbled street with shops selling antiques, crafts, jewellery, books and more.

The Norwich Lanes are a memorable blend of independent shopping, leisure and entertainment. They are a group of historic cobbled streets and alleys with a mix of shops, cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants, hair and beauty salons, theatres and museums.
