Enjoy a Family Summer Holiday Boating on the Norfolk Broads

You can’t beat the sense of freedom and adventure that a Norfolk Broads boating holiday has to offer. It can provide the ideal summer break for families. Boats can be hired for all sizes of family from 2-12 and often two families club together to hire a larger boat or hire a boat each and travel in convoy.

Children love the fact they are on board their very own boat which provides a complete change of scenery to the usual method of travelling by car. A boat is a home from home with all the necessary mod-cons such as toilets, showers, an oven, fridge etc. Sleeping in your own cabin is something small and big kids enjoy! There is even a TV on board and many boats now also have DVD players.

Whilst travelling on the Norfolk Broads there is so much wildlife to be spotted including marsh harriers, kingfishers, otters, ducks, swans, heron and fish. In fact, for many, the Broads can be the first place they see certain species of animals – especially the Swallowtail butterfly which will only be found in the UK on the Norfolk Broads! There are numerous nature reserves on the Norfolk Broads where children can become wildlife detectives.

History is also abundant on the Norfolk Broads and children can be inspired by places such as Norwich Cathedral and Norwich Castle, St Benet’s Abbey in Horning and Hunsett Drainage Mill in Stalham. More great places to visit can be found here.

If you are more of a thrill seeker then a day trip to Pleasurewood Hills theme park in Lowestoft will please. Rollercoasters, family rides, kid’s rides and attractions galore can be enjoyed.

Bewilderwood in Hoveton is another attraction ever-popular with families.  It is a forest full of fun with tree-houses, zip wires and wonderful characters such as Twiggles and Boggles.

Great Yarmouth is a winner with many families with pier entertainment, fun-fairs and a beautiful golden beach. There is also a Sealife Centre where you can see everything from starfish to sharks.

The city of Norwich is packed with things to do for all age groups – more can be found out here.

If you fancy some outdoor active pursuits you can hire bikes on your holiday and enjoy one of many great cycle routes – thebroadsbybike.org.uk is a great website if this appeals to you. You can also hire canoes and kayaks and enjoy some great trails.
